VILLE ENCKELMANN, born in 1976 in Lahti, Finland, first studied English and French Philology at the university of Helsinki. He went on to study at the Operahögskolan, the University College of Opera in Stockholm, Sweden, during which time he also started performing as an accompanist, which has been a major part of his professional career afterwards in Sweden, Finland and Germany.
After graduating as opera coach he became a member of the music staff of the Royal Opera House in Stockholm. As a répétiteur he has also worked at the Savonlinna Festival in Finland, at the Dalhalla Festival in Sweden and at the European Union Opera in Baden-Baden in Germany.
During his time in Sweden Ville Enckelmann also started conducting. He learned at the DIS, Dirigentutbildning i Sverige with Nils-Gunnar Burlin, with Atso Almila in Finland and with John Fiore and Ari Rasilainen in Germany.
In 2000 Ville Enckelmann became a member of the music staff of one of the leading German opera houses, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and Duisburg. He started his career as a répétiteur, but increasingly got into assisting conductors and conducting stage rehearsals and back-stage orchestras in performances. Subsequently he is now officially also a conductor.
In Düsseldorf he has conducted Il barbiere di Siviglia, Eugene Onegin, Hänsel und Gretel and is at the moment working on another series of Barbiere as well as Offenbach‘s La belle Hélène.
In 2005 Ville Enckelmann conducted Puccini‘s Madama Butterfly at the Vaasa Opera in Finland and in 2006 a world first performance of Tim Page‘s Philomela for soprano and chamber orchestra at a contemporary music happening in Helsinki.
