TIM BALDWIN was born in Norwich and educated in Somerset before gaining a BSc in Electronic Engineering at Southampton University (to which he has since added a Master’s). He started singing somewhat belatedly at the age of 35, but has since sung many roles on stage, including the title roles in Don Giovanni, Macbeth, Nabucco and Rigoletto, Alfio Cavalleria Rusticana, Amonasro Aïda, Enrico Lucia di Lammermoor, Escamillo Carmen, Germont La Traviata, Prince Gremin and Zaretsky Eugene Onegin, Kecal The Bartered Bride, Lindorf and Coppelius The Tales of Hoffmann, Marcello and Schaunard La Bohème, Mephistopheles Faust, Noah Noye's Fludde, Sarastro and the Speaker The Magic Flute, Scarpia Tosca, Sharpless Madam Butterfly, Tevye Fiddler on the Roof, Tonio Pagliacci and Zurga The Pearl Fishers.
Tim has sung for many companies around the south of England such as Aquarian Opera, Belcanto Festival Opera, Court Opera, Epsom Light Opera, Figaro Opera, Medway Opera, the Opera Club of Reigate and Redhill, Opera Nova, Opera Omnibus, Opera Options, Park Opera and Riverside Opera. The Beggar’s Opera is his eleventh appearance with Surrey Opera, having last appeared as Anckarstroem in A Masked Ball.
On the concert platform, Tim has sung in many of Mozart’s masses and Bach’s choral works, and Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Creation, Fauré’s Requiem, Messiah and Mendelssohns’s Elijah, in France and Germany as well as around southern England. Tim has studied with Jeffrey Neilson Taylor and Wynford Evans.
