Born and raised in Hong Kong, SOPHIA CHEUNG was awarded both academic and music scholarships to Roedean School. She went on to read Economics at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, having been awarded a Choral Scholarship. Whilst at Cambridge, Sophia performed the major choral repertoire with the Caius Chapel Choir and the Cambridge University Chamber Choir, played Speranza in the Cambridge University Opera Society’s production of Monteverdi Orfeo and gave numerous solo recitals.

Upon graduation, Sophia was lured into the realm of finance in the City of London and subsequently Whitehall. During her brief yet illustrious career, Sophia found time to initiate and take part in fund-raising concerts for charities such as Cancer Research, Brighton Society for the Blind and various Church Restoration Trusts throughout England, as well as taking part in the CityLit Opera production of Fledermaus in London.

Acknowledging her true vocation lies in singing, Sophia relinquished the City and won a place on the Post-Graduate Vocal Training course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she is currently studying with Russell Smythe.

Other stage experience includes: title role of La Cenerentola (Rossini), Hansel in Hansel & Gretel, Octavian in Rosenkavalier in an opera scene performance at the Guildhall School; title role of Carmen, Dido in L’Egisto (Cavalli), Mrs. Quickly in Falstaff, Despina in Cosi fan tutte in opera scene performances with the CityLit Opera London.

Soloist experience in oratorio includes: Requiem (Durufle), Stabat Mater (Rossini), Messiah (Handel), Dixit Dominus (Handel), St. John Passion (Bach), Magnificat (Bach), Petite Messe Solennelle (Rossini), Alto Rhapsody (Brahms), Vesperae Solemnes de Confessorae (Mozart), Gloria (Vivaldi), Requiem (Faure), Come Ye Sons of Art (Purcell).
