Rachel Grunwald graduated from Cambridge University in 2002, where she studied English Literature.
As a student she directed A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, Little Shop of Horrors, The Boy Friend, Tales of the Predictable by Mark Watson and The Footlights Pantomime 2001 in Cambridge, and Romeo and Juliet on tour in America.
Work at the Edinburgh Fringe includes The B File by Deborah Levy in 1998, and in 2003 a promenade production of Fiddler on the Roof, which sold out and received five star reviews.
Assistant direction includes Guys and Dolls, and Macbeth for the Marlowe Society at the Cambridge Arts Theatre.
In London she has directed Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffmann for Hampstead Garden Opera, Upstairs at the Gatehouse.
Bluebeard’s Wives by Helena Thompson for SPID Theatre Company, which sold out at the ICA in June, transfers to the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2003.
She is currently developing a project to explore the Jewish East End of London.
