MATT CONNOLLY (born 28th January 1975) is a high spinto tenor who is at home singing both in the lyric and the dramatic style.
He began his studies in Germany at the Konservatorium in Mainz in 1995, and currently studies with David Barrell and legendary English soprano Pauline Tinsley.
His first role on the operatic stage was the title role in Faust, with Brent Opera, in 1999, and he has gone on to sing roles from the French Lyric (Hoffmann – Les contes d’Hoffmann, Faust - Faust, Don José - Carmen, Wilhelm Meister - Mignon), Bel Canto (Leicester – Maria Stuarda, Riccardo – Un ballo in maschera, Alfredo – La traviata, Nemorino – L’elisir d’amore) and Verismo (Canio - I pagliacci, Pinkerton – Madama Butterfly, Luigi – Il Tabarro) schools, as well as the occasional foray into contemporary opera (Cuthman - Cuthman’s Journey).
In addition to full roles, Matt’s repertoire on the concert stage and in staged operatic excerpts includes scenes and arias from Tosca, La Boheme, Turandot, Les Pecheurs de Perles, Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg, Lohengrin, Il Trovatore, Otello, Aida, Rigoletto, Andrea Chenier, L’Arlesiana, Peter Grimes, Fidelio, The Rake’s Progress and Lucia di Lammermoor.
