LEDA FILIPPOPOULOU began her career in Athens, Greece, where she was a member of the semi-professional choir Fons Musicalis. From 1999 to 2004 she studied Early Music at undergraduate and post-graduate level at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.

She was also involved in the RWCMD Opera Course. Her roles include Bianca Rape of Lucretia, Volupia L’Egisto, Cavalli , Ino Semele, Lichas Hercules, Handeland The Singer in Sweet Green Peas, the RWCMD’s annual puppetry production.

She has sung in masterclasses and workshops with Emily van Evera, Evelyn Tubb, Robin Bowman, Donald Maxwell, Sheila Barnes and Stefan Sanchez.

Leda is also an accomplished oratorio singer. Since 1999 she has collaborated with the baroque orchestra of RWCMD. Performances include Mozart's Ombra Felice (his only concert aria for contralto), J.A. Hasse's Salve Regina in A, Vivaldi's Gloria, Bach cantatas Aus den Tiefen rufe ich, Herr, zu dir BWV 131, Gott ist mein Koenig BWV 71 and Actus Tragicus BWV 106, excerpts from Vivaldi's Juditha Triumphans with the renowned singer Buddug Verona-James, the first performance in Wales of Campra's Cantata La colere d'Achille, the role of Fileno in the Cantata Cor fedele, in vano speri (Clori, Tirsi e Fileno) by Handel, the Monteverdi Vespers and Biber’s Saltzburger Mass.

Future engagements include The Messiah with members of the Welsh Baroque Orchestra.
