Born in London, IAN WILSON-POPE studied at Trinity College of Music and was awarded the TCM Ricordi Opera Prize of 2001 for his portrayal as Nonancourt in Nino Rota’s opera Il Cappello di Paglia di Firenze, along with a Trinity College Fund Scholarship for 2002-3. He studied with John Wakefield, Peter Knapp and Robert Aldwinckle, and continues to study with David Barrell and Bridgett Gill.

Ian’s solo engagements include some of the major concert and theatre venues in London with such distinguished artists as Sally Burgess, Della Jones, Marie McLaughlin and Anne-Marie Owens. Ian has also performed in Budapest with soloists from the Hungarian State Opera. He was a participant in an Opera School Wales Masterclass with David Syrus, Head of Music at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Ian’s operatic repertoire includes: Father in Hänsel und Gretel; Prince Yeletsky The Queen of Spades; Don Fernando Fidelio; Henry Kissinger, Nixon in China (Act I); Aeneas, Dido & Aeneas; Talbot (cover) Maria Stuarda; Henry VIII Anna Bolena; Banquo Macbeth; Colline La Boheme; The Voice of Neptune Idomeneo; Potap (cover), Tchaikovsky’s The Enchantress ; Vodnik, Rusalka; Father, Kurt Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins (with Sally Burgess at St. John’s, Smith Square, London); Bass soloist in Dido’s Court and Witch, Dido & Aeneas; Court Usher & Marullo, Rigoletto; Don Marco, Menotti’s The Saint of Bleecker Street; Seneca, Littore, Mercury and Bass Famigliari L’Incoronazione di Poppea; Herr Schultz Cabaret; Nonancourt Il Cappello di Paglia di Firenze; Envy, Purcell’s The Indian Queen; Sam Wauchope Sweeney Agonistes (Stephen McNeff); Count Almaviva and Figaro Le Nozze di Figaro; Speaker The Magic Flute; Doctor (cover) Vanessa ; Pallante Agrippina; and the Messenger La Traviata.

Oratorio and concert repertoire performances include Fauré’s Requiem; Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms; Schubert’s Mass in G; Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle; Handel’s Messiah; Mozart’s Sparrow Mass; Mass in C “Coronation”, and Requiem; Judas in Jonathan Harvey’s Passion and Resurrection; and 2nd Bass soloist in Stravinsky’s Les Noces at Dartington. Ian also appeared in the Thursford Christmas Spectacular 2005.

Ian’s future engagements include Solo Monk in Massenet’s Thaïs and Basilio (cover) in Il Barbiere di Siviglia for Grange Park Opera (June - October 2006).
