Eamonn Dougan read music at New College, Oxford where he was a choral scholar and lay-clerk. He continued his studies at the Guildhall School of Music, learning with Susan McCulloch, where he won all the major song prizes. He made his solo recording debut for Naxos ( St. John Passion / Higginbottom ) and has broadcast live on Radio 3 and Classic FM. Recent solo work around Britain has included Stravinsky’s Les Noces at Dartington festival, Bach’s St. John Passion with The Hanover Band under Nicholas Kramer at the Chichester festival, Haydn’s The Seasons, Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony, Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius in Wells Cathedral and Handel’s Apollo and Daphne with Peter Holman and The Parley of Instruments, with performances of Fauré’s Requiem in Paris and St. John’s Smith Square and Monteverdi’s 1610 Vespers in Germany. He also sings with a large number of ensembles including The Sixteen, The Clerk’s Group, The Gabrieli Consort, I Fagiolini, The Cardinall’s Musick and Ex Cathedra.

Eamonn made his operatic début as Elviro in Handel’s Xerxes for New Chamber Opera, followed by Aeneas in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas with Opera Restor’d / Benslow Opera. Further roles have included Oronte in Charpentier’s Medée ( GSMD ), Count Gil in Wolf-Ferarri’s Il Segreto di Susanna ( GSMD ), “ the grown-ups “ in the London premiere of The Little Prince at the Linbury Theatre ( ROH ), Strephon ( Iolanthe ), Guglielmo (Cosi fan tutte ) with Camerata, Dr. Maletesta ( Don Pasquale ) with Opera Festa and Figaro ( The Barber of Seville ) for Operation Garsington. Most recently he has sung the role of Mr Gedge ( Albert Herring ) for Opera Project at the Iford and Longborough opera festivals.

He is also in demand as a recitalist and has performed with Graham Johnson’s Young Songmakers Almanac and at the Chelsea, Little Missenden, Catford and Southwark festivals. He has a particular affinity with English song and has given concerts for the Peter Warlock and Ivor Gurney societies, including recently deputising for Sir Thomas Allen at the Warlock society’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
