Anthony Battrick, native of Manchester has been singing since he was a chorister in Manchester Cathedral. Educated at Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester, Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, Abbey Opera training (with Mary Hill) and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, he is as comfortable acting as singing.

Nevertheless, his high lyric tenor has a pure beauty and is flexible enough to enable Anthony to perform opera, operetta, musical comedy, church music and to sing popular music and blues/ jazz. Anthony has performed in all these genres, and has a particular skill in comic roles. Indeed, he as also graduated from a comic writing course at City University.

His voice has been honed by Patricia Varley, from whom he still receives coaching. A coloratura soprano, she was taught by the great maestro Dino Borgioli and passes on some of his influence to Anthony.

His acting talents have been fine tuned by Barbara McGeary at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Past roles include: In opera Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Fenton (Falstaff), Little Bat (Susannah), Rinuccio (Gianni Schicci), Monostatos (The Magic Flute), Spalanzani/Cochenille/Franz (Tales of Hoffman), Basilio (Le Nozze di Figaro). In operetta Aristaeus/Pluto (Orpheus in the Underworld), Dick Dauntless (Ruddigore) and Lord Tolloler (Iolanthe). In musical comedy he has starred as The Man in Blues in the Night and featured in the chorus of Evita, as well as having in his repertoire a number of popular musical comedy songs.

He has performed in a variety of venues across Great Britain, from the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith to the Minack Theatre in Cornwall, the Purcell Rooms, Guildford Electric Theatre, Gatehouse Theatre, Highgate and the Manchester Opera House.
